I love their fries!!!
This was a great little restaurant in the heart of the city, good food, good music and very well priced. We will definitely visit again.
Well everyone told me the service would be poor so expecting the worst and it wasn't too bad. The food however was really really good. I would gladly return, just don't expect a whole lot of effort from the ladies bring you the food and you will be fine.
I will never go back to this place again!!!! My boyfriend and I ( both in the hospitality industry) decided to go there for a late dinner on a Friday night. The menu is nothing special, it took us quite awhile to decide what to order because there was nothing that really appealed to us. We ended up ordering the BBQ bruschetta as an app, then my boyfriend ordered the chicken poh boy with a salad and I ordered the Cayanne butter chicken with sweet potato fries. Our appetizer took close to 20min to get to our tabe ( with only 2 other tables in the place, one of wich was already finished eating). The bruschetta was ok, but neither one of the servers/bartenders ( that were tag team serving us) came over to do a table check. Then after another 20min from the time we finished our appetizer our entrees finally showed up. My chicken was quite messy, lots of sauce(wich I like) but nobody thought to give me any extra napkins, all I had was ONE, singe ply napkin that my cutlury was rolled in!!! Again, neither one of then came over to do a quality check, or bothered to ask how we were enjoying our food. My boyfriends sandwich was very dry, and other then the sauce my chicken was quite dry as well! I sat with an empty glass of wine infront of me for close to 5min and both of the servers looked at it numerous times and didnt bother to come over until i pushed the glass to the end of the table. Our empty plates also sat infront of us for quite some time while they kept walking by and looking at them and NOT taking them away. Finally one of them came over( I barely touched my chicken and she didnt even ask if there was a problem) and asked if we wanted our bill and we said yes. She then went to the computer, printed our bill, then turned around and started to polish cutlury ( with our bill still in the printer!!!!!!!) After over 5 min of our bill sittig in the printer the other guy saw it and brought it to us. All in all I was DISGUSTED with the lact of service! They just really didnt care at all about our experience. I left extremely angry and will never ever go back!!!!!!
the sweet potato fries are to die for! especially with the sauce! :) YUM. Great food with some great people to eat it with. The only thing they need to improve on is the service... make sure the waitresses check on you once in a while, not just to take your order and give you the food, they have to make sure everything is going well and if you need anything else! But yeah fantastic food!
The food is wonderful perfect place to go on a date or just out with friends. The atmosphere and patio are great. The service could be better it's hit or miss some of the staff are friendly and efficient others I find a bit standoffish. Overall though a very good experience everytime.
My absolutely favorite restaurant in peterborough, Hot Belly Mama's has fantastic food, an excellent location, and adequate service. I say adequate becaus the place is often so packed that the wait staff are unable to be as attentive as excellence warrants - no fault to them, they do a great job with what they've got! I've gone in huge groups, as well as small. I've even been able to take-out small orders (usually the sweet potato fries, on my way home from work). The brews from the Olde Stone compliment the cajun fare admirably, and custom orders (such as orange and lemon juice mixed together) are provided with no fuss. Best place in town!
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to Hot Belly Mama's, as usual. I think the key to keep in mind about this place is that there are certain things on the menu that are absolutely fantastic, and these are the things to order, and others that can be hit and miss. Shrimp carnivale, ribs, blackened chicken caesar salad, sweet potato fries, and corn soup are some of my faves and also the specials are usually quite good. The chocolate toffee square is very yummy as well. The service is great as long as you remember this is not a casual atmosphere and you'll get casual service!
This place has improved since my last review. The wait staff are more attentive and friendlier I have to admit. The food?? Still mediocre. The pulled pork was not what it used to be, it was very wet and no BBQ sauce was on the meat, probably watered down too much. The bun was not just a toasted bun but broke apart like a stale bun that had been toasted to hide that it was stale. This doesn't work, toasted means outside crunch, inside hot but still soft and moist. The bun was hard all the way through. The jambalaya and frites were great though. I know this restaurant is capable of better food quality. You've put work into better customer service from the wait staff, lets put some more work into quality control and food consistency I know you can bring back the glory.
Great location and decor, very friendly staff, excellent food! What else could you want?
Amazing experience! Excellent soup, wonderful shrimp entree and very sweet, helpful server. Quite clear to see this is not a chain restaurant - our entire party loved it.
So disappointing. This used to be an old standby for us. Want to go for dinner, not sure where to go? Hot Belly's! You know it will be good. Not any more. Our cafe au laits were soured. When I asked to have them replaced the waitress said 'No'. I actually laughed. She came back twice throughout the meal to let us know she checked the milk, it was fine, came back the second time to let us know they did taste different, but it was the vanilla. Now, I bake. A lot. I've used different types of vanilla in different forms. Vanilla does not taste like badly soured milk. Sadly the food was sub standard as well. I wonder if they have a new chef... The pulled pork was fatty and lifeless. The mustard chicken was fine, but it came with plain white rice. Who wants plain white rice in a cajun restaurant? Argh. It was a waste of time and money.
It is true, if you prefer bland chicken fingers and not-quite-real-potato fries, then this is NOT the place for you!! The food has kick, the sweet potato frites are AMAZING (actually left one time because they had run out of them for the evening), and we love the guest beers they get on tap. We have been multiple times and have always enjoyed the food and the quality of service. Even took my parents and Grandma...they loved it too! It's really too bad that restaurants only get one chance to make you a lifetime customer. I would strongly encourage those of you who did not enjoy your first experience to give it another try. It's worth it!
Service was terrible. I have 18 years of experience and manage a restaurant and they should hire better staff. It wasn't busy and the waitress had no clue. Food wasn't bad but the whole experience was downright bad. I now talk bad about the place to customers and would not recommend it to anyone. Never left a tip and that would be the first one in my history. Don't go.
I live in the UK and would fly back to Canada in a heart beat for some of those curly fries! We loved the food so much that we went there every day we were in Peterborough. Great food, great atmosphere and reasonable prices. The best restaurant Peterborough has to offer!
Sooo bad...I couldnt bring myself to even tip!!! Im a server and always leave at least 30% tip...not even a penny this time!
Great atmosphere, good service and finally some awesome food! So much more enjoyable than your average restaraunt 'chain' food which all starts to taste the same! We will definately be back to Hot Belly Mama's again.
Sunday lunch. The place was completely full, so we had to wait a few minutes for a table to become free. This was not a problem as we didn't think to make a reservation. We had two servers, which we found kind of neat. They both were very attentive, funny and fast. Great job! The food was great, the specials are always so good. And the bold menu items are on the menu for a reason. We will be going back next sunday, thats for sure.
I loved everything about this restaurant, it's #2 on my favorites list. Food was delicious!, I couldn't get enough. atmosphere was great, service could be better, I do think they need to hire more servers it seems to get busy very quickly. Over all, I loved it! and I'm going to have lunch there tomorrow.
It was good. Sweet potatoe fries are delicious! Food is good for the price, pretty big portions! Service could've been better, but place was pretty busy so it was understandable. We'll likely return.
