When you go out for lunch, you don’t want it to just be good. You want it to be interesting as well. Otherwise, you might as well bring your own sandwich/salad/leftovers. Here are my picks for captivating lunch options in town right now:

The Chef's House

1
215 King St, York ON M9N 1L8

The newly renovated space is fantastic, as is the lunch menu and prices. Get two courses for $20, 3 for $52 and the daily special with a glass of featured wine for $18. Plus you get to watch George Brown Culinary students putting their skills to the test. Mains include Pan Seared Chicken with soft grits, butternut squash and tomato jam; Wuxi Pork Ribs with gai-lan and Chloe’s kimchi fried rice; Grilled Salmon with nicoise salad and herb dressing; and Chorizo, Potato & Cheese Omelet, with tossed greens or frites.

Ocho

2
195 Spadina Ave, Toronto ON M5T 2C5

There aren’t many places you can get a classic Waldorf Salad ($11) anymore. Corn, Tomato & Feta Salad ($9) with a lemon-honey dressing is also a great choice. Want something a bit robust? The Veal Roulade ($15) features veal strip loin with mozzarella, and grilled tortilla in red wine jus, or the Smoked Salmon Niscoise with boiled potatoes, French beans, eggs, anchovies, capers and olives in a citrus vinaigrette ensures you won’t be hungry until dinner time.

Sitting on the dock of the bay, or a patio downtown, or in the cool comfort of an air conditioned restaurant, nothing says summertime like fish and chips. Here are the city’s top 5 spots:
