Luxurious pancakes of Toronto

Désolé, le contenu de cette page est uniquement disponible en anglais.

You may not be able to fit a pancake excursion into this week’s Fat Tuesday, but if the occasion inspires you to hunt down some of the best stacks in town, this list is the guide for you. Whether you’re an incurably sweet-toothed bruncher, or an all-around flapjack connoisseur, Toronto is stacked (high five) with gourmet pancakes, loaded with all the fixins.

Rose And Sons

1
176 Dupont St, Toronto ON M5R 2E6

Those particularly partial to ricotta pancakes will want to sample the ones on offer at Dupont darling Rose and Sons, a quick-made fixture on the Toronto breakfast circuit. Slide into a leather booth and take in the Americana vibes of this classic diner with a modern edge. As for the flapjacks, they’re served with sour cherries and maple syrup. Show up on weekdays between 9am and 11am and score yourself an early bird special ;)

Barque Smoke House

2
299 Roncesvalles Ave, Toronto ON M6R 2M3

Because don’t we all, from time to time, get a hankering for pancakes and smoked duck? Thank goodness Roncesvalles’ BBQ resto-bar also does a fabulous brunch on the weekends, with such a delicacy on offer. Order up a stack, topped with blueberry compote, goat cheese and heaps of maple syrup. If you’re looking to double down on the excess, pair with a Barque Bloody Caesar, accented with a piece of candied smoked bacon.

Fresh On Eglinton

3
90 Eglinton Ave E, Toronto ON M4P 1A6

Just because you’re going without gluten, doesn’t mean you can’t tuck in for some premium hotcakes made right. Stop into one of the four locations of Toronto’s favourite health-conscious café and indulge in the gluten-free pancake platter served alongside a tofu scramble and choice of tempeh bacon or grilled vegan sausage. Or keep it simple and order a stack of the classic, the banana nut, or the blueberry almond – all are 100% gluten-free, served with Earth Balance vegan butter, and drowned in pure maple syrup.

Bar Centrale di Terroni

4
1095 Yonge St, Toronto ON M4W 2L7

One word: Pandolci. What are they? Don’t worry about it, they involve Nutella and a Scandinavian spin on the American pancake. But proceed with caution, these mini pancake doughballs may just have you drooling all over the table if you’re not careful. Available at midtown’s sexiest Italian osteria for weekend brunch, this derivation of the flapjack-dear is a must try for any hotcake connoisseur.

Mildred's Temple Kitchen

5
104-85 Hanna Ave, Toronto ON M6K 3S3

When a dish has “legendary” built right into the name, you know the chefs are really ready to stand behind it. Perhaps better knows as Toronto’s Queen pancake purveyor, this Liberty Village mainstay for brunch essentials offers their cakes just like nature intended: thick, packed with blueberries, and piled with real whipped cream and locally sourced maple syrup. Trust us, Mrs. Biederhof’s buttermilk bliss is one of TO’s culinary rites of passage. Best of all, this hotcake hottie is not relegated to weekend brunch only. You can order ‘em up throughout the week.

Our talented brewmasters are among the most beloved makers in the city, having carved out Toronto’s status as a destination for award-winning craft beer. Although the culture is home-grown and goes way back, post 2011, a slew of new spots have popped up across the city. Here are the stories behind both our famed microbreweries and innovative newcomers on the scene. [Photo credit: Celine Kim]
From second-storey terraces to canopy-covered courtyards, 2016 has been a good year for Toronto’s patio game. We’ve got the goods on the brand-new brewery on Roncesvalles and the Lakeshore’s most recent party-worthy spot. East to west, these resto-bar newcomers have created inspired outdoor spaces so you can start patio season off right. [Image credit: iStock.com/Sean Pavone]
On Sunday May 1st 2016, the Artscape Wychwood Barns hosts TO’s largest festival for gluten-free foodies. With workshops led by gluten-free experts and over 65 food vendors to sample from, this event is a must-attend for wheat-sensitive Torontonians. From cupcakes to malt beer and cider tastings, the Gluten Free Garage is where to snack up and stock up this weekend. [Photo by Franco Deleo; courtesy of the Gluten Free Garage]
