After reading various reviews on different websites, I decided to try out Gandhi while I was in the area. I was prepared for the lack of atmosphere, the HUGE portions, a wait time, and relatively high prices. SO...I decided to share a mutter paneer roti with a vegetarian friend! Primarily, Gandhi is a take-out place, so I wasn't surprised to see that there were only 5 small tables with some strangers sharing a table due to the lack of space. Luckily, I had visited during an off-hour. While waiting 'n eating, I witness countless people who just came to pick up their orders. (Calling ahead of time, especially during meal time, was suggested as there is prep time involved in the rotis.) The cost, I thought, was a bit on the high side. $3.95 for a mango lassi? Usually, I expect $2.50. And if I hadn't split a roti, I would've found it even more expensive. HOWEVER, I was quite impressed with the flavour of the piping hot stuffing of the roti. My vegetarian friend, who is Indian, confirmed it to be "authentic". In addition, the sauce had a nice kick to it which I liked! Unless you want leftovers, I would recommend that you share a roti. I did spot some guys who had an empty aluminum tray all to themselves, so it's possible to eat it all. If I'm ever in the area, I'd definitely visit again...and bring my appetite!

Never again

I have been a customer of Gahndi Cuisine for many years. I have always told them to use real hot pepper sause insted of that Dave's Insanity stuff they use when you order spicy. I know what spicy is and this should be called "Pepper spray Roti". I am done eating here cause it is nothing but upset stomachs and migraines. Isn't it funny that when you order hot sause on the side, it is actually Red Hot Louisianna sause. This is not what is inside. Why would I want Louisianna sause in my indian food. Smarten up guys!

The food at Gandhi is beyond comparison. My friend took me there for the first time in December 2007 and now I literally drive from Markham each weekend just to eat there. The service is also amazing; one time my potato roti, which was supposed to be mild, was a bit on the spicy side. I let them know and the owner apologized profusely and personally made me a new one on the spot. Decor-wise, it ain't Centro -- expect a little hole-in-the-wall.

The best indian style roti's in Toronto - been going there for years, basically a take-out style restaurant with a few tables and little ambiance. The food is perpared fresh and is awesome, not common as other places since consistancy is the key and Gandhi fulfills. Try the Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala Roti's, the Butter Chicken over Rice and the Chicken Jalfrezzi. The place is busy at lunch and at dinner time so order ahead. One of the finest in the city and I have been to many.

Best roti I've ever tasted. Soft, homemade roti with perfectly spiced filling. I used to eat here when I lived in the neighbourhood. I make a point of heading down for some roti every time I'm back in town. The owner also owns New York Subway - delicious food there, too.
