Milagro’s menu will take you on a cross-country foodie tour of Mexico. The cuisine is inspired by regional Mexican cuisine, while the décor is inspired by the great cantinas of Mexico City. Owned by Mexico-born brothers, Arturo and Andres Anhalt, Milagro has grown to three locations in Toronto. Alongside the food menu, there’s a huge selection of tequila, Mezcal, wine beer and cocktails.
The first upscale Mexican restaurant in Toronto, Los Colibris takes Mexican cuisine to fine dining levels. Chef Elia Herrera creates authentic Mexican dishes that are packed with flavour. Located on King West, the restaurant also has an extensive tequila and cocktail menu.
Located on St. Clair West, Tenoch is known for its fast service and authentic Mexican eats. The menu is filled with traditional fare like tacos, cornhusk tamales, quesadillas, campechanos and more! All of the dishes are made from family recipes passed down from generation to generation.
La Carnita brought hip Mexican cuisine to Toronto, and with three locations across city, it’s safe to say its branding has been well received. Tacos, Mexican meatballs, Mexican street corn and Mexico chorizo are just some of the options on the ever-changing menu. Make sure you leave room for dessert – tres leche cake and churros! Or, you can always grab one of the infamous ice cream cones from La Carnita’s sister business, Sweet Jesus!

Inspired by antojitos, (snack foods prepared in the market stalls on the streets of Mexico), El Pocho recreates this setting in the heart of The Annex. The small sharing plates are simple but delectable, like the encurditos or the elotes: grilled corn with jalapeno aioli, queso cotijia and cilantro. You can also choose from their selection of tacos.
Located in Kensington Market, Seven Lives is a cash-only taqueria serving up Baja-style tacos. It opened in 2012, after a successful stint as a pop-up. The must try-dish is the Gobernador, a house-smoked tuna, grilled shrimp and cheese taco.
Playa Cabana is just one venue in the Mas Playas Mexican restaurant empire. The menu has a wide variety of Mexican eats, like fresh guacamole, ceviche, nachos, tacos, burritos, enchiladas and much more. Alongside the varied food menu, there’s also a substantial tequila and cocktail selection.
Probably one of the best patios in the city, El Catrin serves up some serious Mexican cuisine in the Distillery District. Inside, the walls are painted with colourful murals and covered chandeliers hang from the ceilings. It’s open for lunch and dinner, plus a mean Mexican brunch on the weekend.
